Hyundai Debuts All-New All-Electric INSTER SUV
Hyundai is launching an all-new electric vehicle called the INSTER EV. The INSTER will be a subcompact EV based on the gas-powered CASPER model. The South Korean automaker is aiming to make it the most affordable EV yet. Lately, Hyundai has made tremendous strides with its EV lineup offering highly capable and versatile models like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. Alongside impressive performance is Hyundai’s Active Air Skirt technology which enhances its electric vehicles. Given its recent success, Hyundai is hoping to capitalize on EV demand by offering an affordable SUV. Aside from affordability, pushback against EVs has surrounded battery range. Thankfully, automakers like Hyundai have been steadily increasing capability and battery capacity. For now, we’ll look at the all-new INSTER EV and see what consumers can expect.
Hyundai Unveils New Subcompact SUV
Hyundai recently revealed an all-new electric SUV called the INSTER. Set to bridge the gap between affordability and capability, the INSTER EV aims to redefine the South Korean CASPER model that it’s based on. Hyundai has expanded its EV lineup with impressive models like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 but the South Korean automaker wants to reach more consumers. The automaker’s models offer impressive capability and versatility but one of the biggest obstacles for potential buyers is pricing. The INSTER EV will serve as a good fit for that specific concern. It is still unclear if the subcompact SUV will make its way to the United States but given the rise in demand for an affordable EV, it’s likely.
Hyundai will release more information about the INSTER EV at the Busan International Mobility Show in late June. Consumers will get a clearer picture of what to expect from one of Hyundai’s most affordable EVs. For now, we expect the INSTER to incorporate Hyundai’s Active Air Skirt technology. We also expect the INSTER EV to feature up to 220 miles of battery range. Hyundai is basing the subcompact SUV on its CASPER model so it will draw on the crossover SUV’s design. The INSTER will add a more sophisticated style with Hyundai’s daytime running lights and the automaker’s pixel turn signals and taillights.
Currently, there is no pricing available for the Hyundai INSTER EV. Since it’s slated to be one of Hyundai’s most affordable EVs however, consumers can expect a reasonable MSRP. The automaker’s CASPER model starts at about $15,000 (plus destination fee) so consumers can expect an MSRP of about $25,000 (plus destination fee). For now, we’ll be staying tuned for more information but so far, it seems that the Hyundai INSTER EV will attract a whole new set of EV customers.
